Mahatma Gandhi was the one of the greatest freedom fighter of India. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born in 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujrat .

Gandhi Ji was born on second October; this is why the whole nation celebrates Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October. His father name was Karamchand Gandhi and was an employer of Gujarat. 

Gandhi ji was always inspired with the stories of Harishchandra and Shravana from his childhood. He also mentioned this in his autobiography that the impact of Harishchanda and Shravana had great impact on his life.

When Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was 14 year old he was married to Kasturbai Makhanji in a child marriage. During his marriage phase, he had also dropped one year from school. Gandhi ji once said, "As we didn't know much about marriage, for us it meant only wearing new clothes, eating sweets and playing with relatives."

Gandhi Ji went to London, England in 1988 for studying law at University Law College, London. He studied the Indian law during this period of time. He also took English dancing classes to adopt the English customs.

When Mahatma Gandhi was 24 year old, he went to South Africa to work as legal representative for the Muslim Indian Traders in Pretoria. He spent his half life in South Africa to learn and practice leadership skills. During his journey in South Africa, Gandhiji faced discrimination lead by colored people living in S.A. in a train, where he refused to give up his first class seat.

In 1897, he was attacked by local white people in Durban. In 1915, Gandhi ji decided to return to India permanently.  He came to India with an international reputation. Later he joined Indian National Congress. Gopal Krishan Gokhale one of the most important congress leader introduced all the Indian issues to Gandhiji. In 1920, Gandhiji become the leader of Congress and there on he started protesting against British government.
